Rules

Rules

In order for the Austin Distance Challenge to be both challenging and equitable to all its participants, sponsors, and staff, there must be rules. The non-negotiable rules for the 2009-’10 season are:

1.             To participate in the Austin Distance Challenge you must register for the Series online at www.austindistancechallenge.com/register. The options are:

Full Track – Runners register for and complete the maximum distance in the final six races. Runners must also register for and complete the Silicon Labs Marathon Relay.

Half Track – Runners register for a complete the maximum distance in the final six races, except they run the 10 Mile event at the RunTex 20 Miler and the half-marathon at the Austin Marathon. Runners must register for and complete the Silicon Labs Marathon Relay. Please note that runners cannot satisfy this requirement by running on a relay team for 3M or Decker.

Kids Track – Children 12&Under compete in the Kids Mile and Kids K in the races that make them available. Currently, the Run for the Water, Decker Challenge, and RunTex 20 Miler will be offering a kids run. The final event is a 5K on the morning of the Austin Marathon.

Team Track – Teams of 5 runners compete in either a male or female division, with the top 3 times from each event counting towards their overall time. If a member of the team misses an event they are eliminated from the ADC Team Track competition. The remaining 4 runners can still compete. If two runners miss a race, the remaining 3 can still compete. Once 3 runners miss a race, the team is dissolved. Runners must register for and complete the Silicon Labs Marathon Relay, but they do not have to do it with their other team members, although that is encouraged. Please note, if one of the teammates misses a race, their time is removed from the whole series. Thus, if their time was used in any of the previous races it is removed, which could affect the current standings.

**The last day to officially sign-up for the ADC is Friday, October 23, 2009. All participants must register for and run in the Silicon Labs Marathon Relay on September 26, 2009**

2.             Runners must register for and complete all seven races of the Austin Distance Challenge to be eligible for overall prizes and to receive the finisher’s award.

Those races and dates are:

Sept. 27 – Silicon Labs Marathon Relay                        Oct. 18 – IBM 10K

Nov. 8 – Gazelle Foundation Run for the Water           Dec. 6 – ARC Decker Challenge Half-Marathon

Jan. 10 – RunTex 20 Miler                                                 Jan. 24 – 3M Half-Marathon

Feb. 14 – Austin Marathon/Half-Marathon

3.             Runners must enter each race in the ADC by registering for each event individually. Entry fees are determined by each in the DC. Participation in the DC DOES NOT constitute automatic entry into each race.

4.             Runners must be official finishers of ALL of the seven races in the Challenge to earn the finisher’s premium. NO RELAY TEAM FINISHES COUNT, SANS THE SILICON LABS MARATHON RELAY. Runners must finish each race and appear in the official results of each race in the Distance Challenge. Information and results for each race can be found at www.austindistancechallenge.com/event.

5.             Substitutions for any of the events are NOT PERMITTED. Participants must register, pay for, run in, and complete each race within the ADC on the designated race day.

6.             In the event of a race postponement or rescheduling due to inclement weather or an act of God, the runner must complete the event on the rescheduled date.

7.             Scoring for age-group awards (five-year age groups) is based on cumulative overall time in each of the Austin Distance Challenge races. This year most races will be using the D-Tag, so the purchase of a chip is not necessary. YOU CANNOT WEAR A CHIP IN SUBSTITUTE OF THE D-TAG. ALL RUNNERS MUST USE THE TIMING SYSTEM SET FORTH BY THE EVENT.

8.             All runners who register for the ADC by Tuesday, October 13, 2009 will receive the official race jacket. TO BE ELIGIBLE TO COMPETE IN THE ’09-’10 ADC, RUNNERS MUST REGISTER BY THE DATE ABOVE. Age division will be determined by the participants DOB on February 14, 2009.

9.             A new set of unique patches with each race logo will be available at all RunTex locations following each event. An ADC tent will be near the finish line at each race with a leaderboard and a spot for post-race interviews. Any inquiries can be addressed here.

10.          Runners can switch from full to half track – or vice versa – at any time up to January 10. Afterwards, runners can drop down to the half-track but not move up to the full track. The time used for competition purposes will be the 10 Mile split at the RunTex 20 Miler.

11.          If a runner misses a race they are out of the overall ADC Competition, but can still receive patches and attend post-event party.

12.          If one member of team misses out on a race, they are excluded from the ADC Team Competition. Teams can still compete as a 4-member team or a 3-member team.

13.          Protests may be emailed to michael@gilbertsgazelles.com, or made in writing to RunTex, Attn: Distance Challenge, 422 W. Riverside Dr., Austin, TX, 78704.
